Cyrus felt the relief wash over him as he stepped past the threshold and the elevator door silently slid shut behind him. He was greeted by light filtering in through the elongated window that occupied two entire walls on its own. The pristine furniture set, area rug, and coffee table he barely used was still waiting for him in one corner of the large space near the window. His kitchen, all stainless steel and marble, was still spotless with the L-shaped breakfast nook separating the eatery from the great room. The granite floor, a bespeckled grey and black design, still clopped with each step he took further inside and had been freshly polished. The staff were nowhere to be seen so they had gotten the message. Cyrus was pleased.

He strode over to the circular recess cut into the floor where the furniture was and laid his suit jacket across the back of the couch. His vest and tie came off next and the first two buttons of his collared shirt were unbuttoned after. He unbuttoned his cuffs and rolled up the sleeves to the forearm as he stepped over to a rolling countertop. It was grandiose and rose to his waist. There was an assortment of alcohol neatly organized in a line and small glasses glinting in the light of the sun.

Cyrus picked a drink and slowly emptied some of the clear liquid into a glass until it was a quarter full. The crystal container went back into its place and the president of the Enterprise finally took a seat on a half-crescent couch. His gaze went to the window and the cluster of skyscrapers and other buildings extending out to the horizon from it. It was a beautiful view from the top of his building. He thought this penthouse had been worth it in the end. He sipped some of the clear liquid and exhaled as it went down. It was smooth and warm and exactly what he needed at that moment. The other thing he needed came through the elevator doors as the mechanism dinged and a woman stepped through.

She was tall, fair-skinned, and gracefully built. Long slender limbs, a small waist, and narrow shoulders enhanced an angular face with piercing eyes, manicured brows, and fashionably styled dirty blonde hair. She wore a dress that hugged in the correct places and fanciful heels that only shortened her slightly as she kicked them off. Though slow, she made a beeline towards Cyrus and the great room suite, a strong expression occupying her visage and alcohol locked in her gaze.

Cyrus placed his drink on the coffee table, stood, immediately grabbed a slim bottle, and poured a brown liquid into another small glass. Filled it to a quarter as he had done for his own. He set it down on the table, grabbed his drink once more, and returned to his seat. He took another sip.

The woman sat down next to Cyrus and sighed heavily, moving strands of hair from her face and behind her ear.
